Safe Families for Children - Northern Indiana
Safe Families creates an extended family - you can help
Safe Families for Children is an alternative to foster care. In foster care, children are placed into homes through the courts and foster families receive compensation for their care.
Through SFFC, host families receive no compensation for caring for children, and parents voluntarily place their children with them.
Safe Families creates an extended family
This temporary care for children in need gives parents time to establish stability in their homes. Host families care for children whose families are in crisis. These crises can include:
- Sudden unemployment
- Delivery or other hospitalization
- In-patient treatment
- Parent incarceration
- Isolation & feeling overwhelmed
The goal of the SFFC ministry is to offer support in a time of need and reunite children with their families in a stronger home environment.
A host volunteers to host children in need in their home. Hostings can range from overnight - a few months.
Respite families who can help a few weeks/weekends a year are also needed.
Family Coaches volunteer to check in on the host family and the child staying in their home. Coaches provide encouragement to host families and the placing parent. Case loads can be either one case at a time, or multiple depending on availability.
Safe Families Church
Safe Families Churches help with promoting the ministry of Safe Families as well as encouraging the volunteers.
Churches can help by donations of needed items, host training events, etc.
Safe Families partners with host agencies, local churches, ministries, as well as community and government agencies to help children and families that would otherwise be forgotten.
