In Loving Memory - Mama Morris

By: Kathy Brittain

Sadly, one of our dear, dear foster mothers, passed away at age 57.

She was called Mama Morris. She was a widow who has cared for many children through the years.

Her husband died in the Civil War in Liberia in the 1990’s. As gunmen killed her husband in front of her, she was told to dance—to act happy and to celebrate at a most difficult time in her life. How tragic.

But God helped Mama Morris move on in life. She was a beautiful lady who helped many. A beautiful friendly, spirit. During one of the times Bill Brittain and former BCH President Jim Geurink visited Liberia, she went out of her way to make a lovely cake for them.

During the visit Bill and I took just 4 months ago, we were so happy to be able to spend some time with her. Not knowing it would be our last, Bill wanted me to take a picture of him with her at the dedication of our Hope Student Center (college dorm/church plant) in Monrovia.

I am so glad we have that picture to remember her by. We were also able to visit her home and the small store which helped to provide her living. With an inventory of small items and various food, it was a small wooden stall on the dirt path/road which winds through her neighborhood. We will miss her.
