Indianapolis – First Lady Karen Pence hosted the eighth and final award reception for grant recipients of the Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation at the Governor’s Residence on Thursday, where she awarded $38,000 to 40 organizations and charities that serve Hoosier families and children across the state.

Baptist Children’s Home was represented by Chief Operating Officer Linda Brooks, who was on hand to receive the award.

“When Mike was elected Governor, I was overwhelmed with requests from so many worthy organizations to get involved in their efforts. However, it quickly became clear that I couldn’t be at every event, nor could I champion every cause. That is why I, along with a team of dedicated board members, started the Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation as a way to shine a light on the organizations across Indiana who lift up our communities and make our state strong,” First Lady Karen Pence stated.

“The Baptist Children’s Home is one of those organizations that is doing great work for our Hoosier children and families, and it is an honor to recognize them today,” said First Lady Karen Pence.

First Lady Karen Pence started the Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation in August of 2013 as a way to recognize organizations and charities across the state.

“Whether helping a child develop a love for reading or supporting families in need or encouraging a child to go further in the arts, these organizations are the backbone and the heart of our communities. They represent the very best of what it means to be a Hoosier, and we thank them for their service,” said First Lady Karen Pence.

“Baptist Children’s Home is so grateful to receive this award. We work to help families in Indiana, especially Northwest Indiana, who are facing a crisis. Children are the most vulnerable in our society, and this grant will allow us to care for even more children in need,” said Linda Brooks, C.O.O. of Baptist Children’s Home.

Baptist Children’s Home (BCH, Inc.) provides loving homes to help children in need. This is provided through group home care, foster care, Safe Families for Children™, and adoption services. The Elkhart, Indiana group home is nearly at full capacity and all from children from the Northern part of Indiana.

Baptist Children’s Home also partners with local churches, shelters, and volunteers to serve as the head of the Northern Indiana chapter of Safe Families for Children™. Hundreds of Indiana children each year have had a safe place to live and loving caregivers during their time of crisis.

“Our goal is to prevent child abuse and neglect. One of the ways we work to end them is by supporting families who are in isolation,” said Linda Brooks.
